Encouraged both by his father, an accordion player and his mother, a trumpeter, James Lesueur started studying accordion at the age of 4 with Mr Roger Crevat at Lyon and Cyrille Laurent at Hirson. Showed an early gifted musician, he moved to the most famous school in the Capital: the Académie de Paris a few years later and improved his technique besides the greatest accordion players like Joe Rossi, Marcel Azzola, André Astier and Joss Baselli. As a relentless worker, this perfectionist and exceptional musician won all the UNAF competitions. He became world champion in 1968 and went on winning many other prizes like Les Princes de l’Accordéon in 1982 in France, the first prize of the Franco Belgian television in 1984.
From then on, his talent has been recognized not only by the greatest names of French music such as Juliette Greco, Charles Trenet, Gilbert Bécaut, Georges Guétary, Régine or Michèle Tor. James Lesueur performs on the nicest stages like the Olympia, Pavillon Baltard, Chatelet, Palais des Congrès and Pleyel. He also performs abroad in London, New York, Damas and even Bangkok.
James Lesueur is also the unavoidable guest of festivals and radio and TV programs. As a member of the French SACEM, he is an amazing composer as well whose songs are used in the greatest accordion competitions in France, Italie, Germany and Eastern Europe.
This versatile artist is an amazing performer in musette, variété and classical masterpieces he especially enjoys. Impressive, James Lesueur is the perfect balance between an infallible technique, a sturdy character and a great sensitivity: as many qualities that give his art a unique phrasing and musicality on the one hand and captivate his audience on the other hand.
